Thermal Barrier is a material or coating, applied over polyurethane foam or metal, designed to slow down the rate of temperature increase of the foam during a fire, and to delay the foam's involvement in a fire. A thermal barrier can be applied to any surface that operates at a high temperature or has the potential to catch on fire. In most cases, thermal barrier is applied using a vapor or spray.
Keeping in mind that nothing is 100% fireproof, there are materials that are more resistant to fire than others. Insultech uses A/D Type FP, a sprayed fire resistive material intended for application to structural steel, concrete and other substrates. It provides excellent fire protection, thermal insulation and accoustic properties in one. The product is a noncombustible blend of mineral wool, portland cement and proprietary ingredients. Application requires the addition of water at the job site.
This product is not intended for exposure to weather or physical abuse.
